As my final project for a class on American Protest Literature along with a couple of my classmates I made a video protesting political apathy amongst our generation. Given the upcoming election this is an incredibly important and timely issue. The issues that our next president will deal with (Health Care, Iraq war, multiple Supreme Court vacancies) will effect our generation for decades to come. There has never been a more important election to make the youth voice heard.
The video says most all of what I would otherwise write here so i'll let the video speak for itself.
Additionally, part of this process is trying to test whether YouTube can be used as an effective tool/site for social protest or whether the viral video craze is relegated to short blooper films and funny skits/music videos. Can the' YouTube video' replace pamphlets/speeches/essays/books used by social protesters in generations past? Is it possible to leverage the unreal viral potential of YouTube for social good, to create an online forum for intelligent discussion and civic action? To this end my classmates and I are trying to generate some online buzz for this video. We want the message of political participation to reach as many people as possible so to this end, if you would please forward the video/message along to as many people as possible it would be great. Additionally, I've created another blog, ChangeYouthVoting.blogspot.com, to monitor this project and help people register/vote.
Here is the link if you would like to visit the YouTube page to comment/rate/favorite the video:
